Aboriginal Influences

Didgeridoo otherwise known as Yidaki

Yidaki is one of several Australia Aboriginal names for the didgeridoo

The instrument is a long hollow tube fashioned out of a eucalypt branch.  The sound is produced by a circular breathing technique which involves expelling air with the cheeks while breathing through the nose and uses a demanding combination of lips, cheeks, tongue, voice and lungs

The Aboriginal flag was first flown on 12 July, 1971

The red represents the land
the black represents the people

and the yellow represents the sun, the giver of life

Aboriginal Influences

Kiln-fired clay sculptures of Aboriginal figures are discreetly set among rocks, fern trees and Mountain Ash. These sculptures are an expression of Rickett's philosophy - that all people need to act as custodians of the natural environment in the same way as Aborigines, the inspiration for much of his work.

The William  Rickett's Sanctuary has to be felt rather than explained
